I would like to nominate VOLEH for the outstanding volunteers award.
I am a recent olah chadasha and I wanted to settle a dispute with my
baal habait in small claims court in Jerusalem. They only accept
claims in Hebrew and my Hebrew is not proficient at all. I received
an appointment as soon as I could come to their offices. I met with
VOLEH and they spent about 2 hours helping me file the case. They
filled out all the paperwork for me in Hebrew and gave me directions
so that all I had to do was drop it off at the small claims court
office. It was an amazing service and they didn’t charge me one
shekel. I have already recommended their services to other olim and
strongly support their nomination as an outstanding volunteer.
I came across this website and was amazed at what I read in some of the cases described that Tzvi dealt with. The thought of going through those experiences made me tremble with fear. I sent a couple emails with the odd question I had regarding taxes etc, and was amazed at how quickly Tzvi replied. I then realized how serious this VOLEH is! It certainly is a comforting thought to know that should I ever need serious help (may that never be the case!) there is somebody so responsive to turn to.
I understand that the Israel Bar Association in Tel Aviv is accepting recommendations for outstanding volunteers who have served the public. I would like to nominate “Voleh” for this award.
I am an olah chadasha and had some ongoing issues with my employer and Voleh provided me with quick and efficient assistance that resulted in a complete resolution. For this service I was most grateful. Olim chadashim are often taken advantage of in the workplace because of our lacking Hebrew skills and incomplete knowledge of Israeli law. Voleh provides an invaluable service in this respect by helping olim to receive fair treatment in the workplace.

Simply amazing is the case with Voleh & its founder Attorney Tzvi Szajnbrum!
I needed to file a small claims case and found all the instructions and lots of good information online at the Voleh website. All of this is provided without cost to the new and not so new immigrant. It was a case with a few problems and I thought it would be a waste of time to ask for advice, nevertheless I soon found myself in the Voleh Office speaking with Attorney Szajnbrum. I got all the advice I needed and some important follow-up information as new issues came to light.
Voleh, Simply Amazing! They get my vote for the best support to all Immigrants both new and not so new, for free.
I just wanted to let you know about a wonderful experience I just had.
I wrote an e-mail with a few questions regarding part-time worker rights. Within a minute I received an automated response letting me know that my e-mail was received and would be handled by one of the volunteers. Less than 24 hours later I received a response from Tzvi Szajnbrum.

As an Oleh, I have found it difficult if not impossible to deal with official Israeli society.
My darling mother went to Olam Habah. I had to transfer the title of her automobile to my name. I went three times to Misrad Rishuii and did not succeed. My Voleh attorney Tzvi ended up going twice and finally succeeded in transferring title. I could not have done it without him.
His advice has been most helpful in helping me try and understand official Israel!

We had a “typical Israeli” who tried some sneaky moves to basically sue us for a bit of money we didn’t owe him, and he used a friend of his who is a lawyer to play the system against us to the fullest in what is called a “shitat matzliach”.
Well, thanks to help from Voleh he didn’t get what he was asking for, and Tzvi was always willing to help out, by responding quickly to emails at all times of the day and night, and telling us what documents meant (we could scan and email PDFs and didn’t have to resort to the fax). We don’t know what would have happened without Tzvi, and are very grateful.
I hope readers don’t have encounters with the legal system here, but if you do, Voleh is there to help out.
I would like to tell you that I am most impressed with the voluntary service provided by Voleh via the website. The articles are extremely well presented and to the point, and are most helpful to the English speaking layman in getting to know the system. They are also interesting reading even when the case does not relate directly to personal experience, so I sometimes pass them on.

I recommend Voleh as Outstanding Volunteers. Attorney Tzvi Szajnbrum’s guidance and hand-holding throughout our past three years of our assimilation has been priceless! He has helped us with rental contracts, landlord disputes, employment contracts, advice during and after employment termination, letters and phone calls to get us our severance pay and unemployment benefts – and just last week my wife called him from Cellcom where she was being abused by their “policies” for almost 4 hours and Tzvi resolved the situation in less than 5 minutes on the phone! Voleh’s services have been given to us free of charge – an incredible gift.
I wonder how other people survive Aliyah without such guardian angels to watch over and protect them. Voleh has added new meaning to the concept that in Israel we are all mishpacha! We have no blood relatives in Israel, but we have found that we have family at Voleh.

They helped me completely free of charge, and work pro bono out of willingness to help olim make a smooth transition and effective integration into Israeli society. It’s wonderful to know that there are legal offices in the country willing to help us and give us advice out of the goodness of their hearts.

I want to take the opportunity to recommend this organizations wonderful work. I have communicated with them on several occasions via email and have read a multitude or articles posted on their website – ALL FREE.
These articles have been very helpful and were written for the layman in the most pragmatic of terms. In other words, devoid of legalize and written with the most practicle examples and advise. I can tell you that it is not as simple as it may sound.
Things are done a lot differently in Israel to say the least. The greatest fear a person can have is a fear of the unknown. hen you come to a new country with a new language, culture, set of laws and metholodology of operating, the task can be daunting at best.

For the past two years, Tzvi Szajnbrum has helped our son fight for a decent job in the IDF. We first contacted Tzvi when the army sent our bright, highly motivated son to a training base for dropouts and delinquents (they misunderstood his US high school credentials) and again some months later when they “sentenced” him to a dead end job in logistics. Thanks to Tzvi’s persistance and professional help, our son is now working in a great army job helping IDF volunteers that puts his talents, energy and creativity to much better use. I have never met Tzvi in person, but just through my dealings with him by phone and e -mail, it’s obvious that his caring, professionalism and responsiveness are so out of the ordinary. I can’t speak highly enough about Tzvi. Hes a true mentsh. I would recommend him to everyone i know without hesitation.
I heard about Voleh and Tzvi from a friend who used them for a similar issue. This was a huge help for me as a new olah who doesn’t really understand the system here yet. I was able to get an appointment almost immediately, where Tzvi gave me a rundown of what I could and could not realistically expect from the Israeli legal system, and I walked out the door with a letter and a plan, more in control of my situation. With nowhere else to turn, this was a real lifesaver and I feel lucky to have found out about it.

I am an Oleh Chadash who made Aliyah approx. 1.5 year ago. After working for 9 months for a Company in Tel Aviv (my first job in the Country), my employer decided to “reduce the terms” of the employement. In plain English, this means that he wanted me to continue to work for him but for less money.
Not knowing my rights in Israel, I contacted Voleh (Tzvi S.). I was quickly directed to Ayelet Zigdon, a Lawyer specilized in Labour Law. Ayelet offered me to meet with her on the same day (I was supposed to have another meeting with my employer the day after, so I really appreciated her availability).
I found the advices I got from Ayelet very professional and clear. In particular, she explained to me that in Israel it is legal (and quite common) for an
employer to “adjust down” the terms of the employment of an employee.
According to her, the fact that they want to reduce my wages now is
because I’m still within the first year of employment and therefore
not entitled to any severance pay in case of redondancy. She also gave
me sone insights regarding notice period. Thus, after working for 9
months, the notice period is approx. 13 days.
Because there was no wrongdoing and because my employer still wanted me to stay in the Company, she advised me to negociate (which was wise).
All in all, I can say that it was a helpfull meeting. I am pleased by
the assistance I’ve received.

I had a lengthy contract for an apartment rental which I sent to Voleh on a Friday morning as it was all in Hebrew (I do not read Hebrew very well and know nothing about Israeli law).
Tzvi Szajnbrum sent it back to me not too long after Shabbat the very next day with his comments, suggestions, and explanations. This was vitally helpful to me. He should be commended and given the award for super-outstanding volunteer service to new olim.

I am only a few weeks away from making aliyah from California and was referred to Tzvi Szajnbrum to help in transferring my license as a dental hygienist here in the USA so that I can teach and practice in Israel when I arrive. He responded quickly to my initial e-mail and has suggested that as soon as I arrive that we go together to the Ministry of Health’s office. Although I still don’t know the end result, Mr Szajnbrum has given me the encouragement I needed at this time in my aliyah process to know that I have someone who is extremely qualified and willing to help an olah chadashah. For someone who is working without fees and for so many varied clients with so many varied problems Tzvi is just amazing. He readily grasps the issues, is cool and calm in his analysis and straightforward with his advice.
He answers emails the same day, usually within an hour; and calls back on the telephone when he has promised to do so.
I don’t know how he does all this. I expected to be passed on to a junior colleague but no, Tzvi dealt with my problem himself.

I have just very good things to say about Tzvi and his work! I am in Israel for 3 years and he already saved me of a lot of trouble… Moving to a new country is a hard challenge and we meet people on the way that make our dream to live in Israel more possible. WOW !!! Tzvi has helped me, again. First, Tzvi helped me with a rental agreement I never should signed; Tzvi found the problems with agreement and spoke with the landlord on my behalf. Next, when I did find a great apartment with a sincere landlord, Tzvi checked both the real estate agent agreement and the rental agreement making sure it was OK before I signed it; lucky for me, Tzvi checked the real estate agent agreement since it said I pay the fee whether or not I rent the apartment. Now, I was offered a job (my first since aliyah) and the job required a contract. Of course, the contract was in Hebrew and since I do not know either Hebrew or Israeli contracts, I really needed Tzvi. Sure enough, Tzvi reviewed the contract and told me exactly which parts were not right. Thanks Tzvi !!! An oleh would be lost without you.

Mila left Israel with her 4 year old son after we represented her and her partner in a speedy divorce case. She was allowed to leave Israel, we settled the child support obligation – and all this in 24 hours. A record in the Israeli courts. After being released from the army close to 6 months ago, I recieved ahospital bill in the mail that the IDF claimed they had already paid. Apparently they hadn’t, and I was stuck with a huge bill that was the IDF’s responsibility to pay. After multiple attempts at contacting the Unit of Health in the IDF without success I was put in touch with Tzvi Szajnbrum. Tzvi set up an appointment immediately after speaking with him on the phone. He assessed the situation and took care of everything the same day! Within 12 hours of our appointment I was faxed all the relevant forms from the IDF stating that they had been contacted by Tzvi, and would be paying the bill immediately.
Tzvi is very friendly, professional, and provided me with the most efficiant service that I have seen so far in Israel!

After receiving a threatening letter from our our former landlord stating he was withholding most of our deposit, Tzvi saw us the same day and immediately made contact with the landlord. He and his team drafted a claim form within days of meeting him, as the landlord was leaving Israel.
This forced the landlord to settle at a higher amount than we would ever envisage at the outset. I can’t recommend him and his team enough. I have no hesitation in recommending him. Its people like Tzvi and his team make such a difference and its comforting to know there is someone like him helping Olim in difficult times.

Over the past few weeks Attorney Tzvi Szajnbrum took the burden of a landlord problem completely off of our shoulders! And did an outstanding job of negotiating our contract with a new landlord that is fair to all parties. I was amazed at his ability to quickly switch back and forth between English and Hebrew during our phone conference with the landlord – especially since his native tongue is Portuguese (BTW, he was in Elkana, we in Ra’anana, and she in Ma’ale Adumim – so location is not a constraint when working with him). He has lived in Israel for more than 30 years, and also spent a few years in the US so he understands the type of service that Americans are accustomed to. We are very happy with his services! Hello- Thanks for this very informative English site! I wondered what the noise laws were- for the neighbors who blast music as though it were a club at 11pm at night over and over with all neighbors calling the police over and over- are there fines?

Expert help with IDF issue
Our deepest thanks to Tsvi for volunteering to help with our son’s complicated problems with the IDF. As olim facing a bewildering and well entrenched system that seemed determined to railroad our son into a dead-end job in the army because of misunderstandings over his education and medical profiles. Tzvi was able to get to the decision makers quickly and get his situation looked at again. While our requests through “channels” and the public complaints office went no where fast, Tsvi’s efforts were able to get action. There are not enough words to thank him or Voleh for taking up our cause – pro bono, and with great professionalism.
